Katherine dekrey | Downtown improvement district | Summer 2017

Field guide to the minneapolis downtown forest

Katherine worked with the Downtown Improvement District and Green Minneapolis through their Green Districts task force. She helped support their initiative to dramatically improve the urban tree canopy by 2025 and to “advance and maintain green infrastructure in downtown Minneapolis, maintain and enhance downtown’s existing forest, engage with residents and visitors around downtown’s forest.”

She engaged in a variety of fieldwork, including collecting tree data, creating tree tags, and determining where planters could be expanded. Additionally, she created documents to assist in the flow of information and communication between the different partnerships and developed a watering and forest maintenance plan. She enjoyed getting to collaborate with the tree arborist and the various groups involved in this initiative.
